Friends of KOTA: From Skeptic to Superhost — Katja’s Journey with 20+ Airbnbs and One Dream Sofa Bed

Almost ten years ago, Katja Meriläinen said “absolutely not” when a friend suggested she try Airbnb. Today? She’s hosting over 20 properties and has become an expert in crafting standout guest experiences.

Katja’s Hosting Philosophy

For Katja, great hosting boils down to three key elements:

  1. A seamless experience – Guests should feel taken care of from start to finish. Katja uses automation where she can, but remains personally available when needed.
  2. Impeccable cleanliness – Not just quick tidying between guests, but regular deep cleans that reflect pride and care.
  3. Something different – Katja avoids bland, boring interiors. Instead, she aims to give each space a unique character that guests remember.

One of her favorites is a charming cottage in Espoo, surrounded by nature yet still close to the city. “Guests love the garden and the peaceful vibe,” she says. “It doesn’t feel like you're in the city at all.”

The Perfect Sofa Bed Does Exist

In her newest apartment, Katja chose a KOTA Sofa Bed King — and it’s quickly become one of her favorite pieces.

“It’s really difficult to find a good sofa bed. They’re either uncomfortable or look awful. This one is different — super comfortable both as a sofa and a bed. Plus, it looks really good.”

Stylish, functional, and guest-approved — just like Katja’s hosting style.
