At KOTA, we don’t just say our products are high quality - we go out of our way to prove it.
To make sure our sofa beds are genuinely built to last, we asked independent experts to run them through rigorous lab tests. These tests simulate intensive, real-life use over many years to see how well our mattresses and seating hold up. And the results? Very reassuring.
The Mattress - Still Comfy After 30,000 Sleep Cycles
Test standard: SFS-EN 1957 (2012)
We wanted to ensure that our memory foam-enhanced mattress remains supportive and comfortable even after a decade of heavy use. So we sent it to a certified testing lab, where it was pressed and compressed 30,000 times. That’s the equivalent of a 140 kg person using it every night for more than 10 years of very active use.
Here’s what the test revealed:
- Barely any sagging: The mattress height decreased by just 3.6%, meaning it still holds its shape and structure.
- Firm but comfy: The firmness increased only slightly, enough to remain supportive without becoming too hard.
- Resilient bounce-back: Elasticity changed by just 2.5 mm, showing that the mattress stays springy and responsive.
In short: the mattress held up impressively well - still comfy, still supportive, and still ready for more.
The Seat - Strong, Safe, and Sturdy
Test standard: SFS-EN 12520 (2024)
We also tested the KOTA Single (which shares the same core structure and materials as our other sofa beds) using the official European safety and durability standard for home seating.
Here’s what it went through - and passed:
- General safety
- Stability (doesn’t tip easily)
- Strength and durability - Including tests for static and dynamic loads, edge pressure, and impact resistance
This test simulates everything from flopping down heavily to kids climbing all over it – and KOTA passed every part with confidence.
Why This Matters
When you buy a KOTA sofa bed, you're not just getting great design - you're getting a product that delivers on quality too. It looks good, feels great, and most importantly, it performs – day after day, year after year.
